Hugs for Heroes (Ongoing)

Hugs for Heroes is a blanket program that allows the parent or sibling that is being deployed for military service and the child to share parts of the same blanket in a symbolic effort to share a handmade hug.

The corner of the fleece blanket that is typically cut out and thrown away is kept and given to the service person and the child is given the fringed blanket (pictured below this would be the red corner with the yellow star).  We ask for all four corners to be cut out and handed in with a completed blanket for a few reasons: 1. the service person can have one corner, 2. the spouse can have the other corner, and 3. the child can have one or two corners to put in a backback or to put in a pocket when the blanket is too large to take with him or her.

There are several ways to participate:

1. You can purchase the blanket above in from the National Project Linus Store and make it and bring it or ship it to one of our drop off sites.  YOU MUST INCLUDE THE CORNERS.  You may include an optional personal message of gratitude to the child and service person by filling out this form and we will attach the message to the blanket before delivery.

2.  You can purchase the blanket above in from the National Project Linus Store or purchase fleece from our Amazon wish list and have it shipped to our address at 27943 Seco Canyon Road #517, Santa Clarita, CA 91350 and we will make it for you.  If you would like to send an optional message the receiving family, you may fill out this form or include the information from this form in an email to (sgarvar@gmail.com)  and we will make sure that the receiving family obtains your personal message upon delivery.

3.  You can make a patriotic blanket of your choice and include that blanket ALONG WITH ALL FOUR CORNERS and bring it to a drop off site.You may include an optional personal message of gratitude to the child and service person by filling out this form and we will attach it to the blanket before delivery.  For ideas on fleece, please see our Amazon wish list.  There are fleeces that are designated to specific miliatary branches available at Joann Fabric, Amazon and other fabric stores.

4.  You can send a monetary donation in increments of $20 to the chapter address at 27943 Seco Canyon Road #517, Santa Clarita, CA 91350 (CHECKS MADE OUT TO: Project Linus) with a designation that you want your donation to go to “Hugs for Heroes” and we will use it to make a blanket on your behalf.  You may include an optional personal message of gratitude to the child and service person by filling out this form and we will attach the message to the blanket before delivery.
